Why Eve Isn't Available on Windows or iOS

At Arx, we're committed to user freedom, privacy, and control. Recent developments in Windows and iOS have only reinforced our decision to avoid these platforms, we apologize for any users this affects, but we are firm on our promise to you, and releasing Eve on those platforms would break that promise.

The Creepy World of Windows Recall

Microsoft's "Recall" feature is a prime example of why we don't support Windows:

  • It's an AI-powered tool that takes screenshots of your screen every few seconds.
  • These snapshots create a searchable timeline of everything you do on your PC.
  • Microsoft calls it a "photographic memory" for your device.
  • It's essentially a built-in surveillance system on your own computer and it is now a required dependency for all windows 11 devices.

Security Researchers have declared Recall insecure even before its launch. It's a privacy nightmare and a surveillance tool. Even after widespread criticism, Microsoft is firm on wanting this feature.

iOS: A Walled Garden with Prying Eyes

While iOS doesn't have an equivalent to Recall (yet), it has its own privacy issues:

  • Constant Data Collection: Contrary to Apple's marketing, your iPhone is not as private as you might think. Apple constantly gathers data from your phone whenever you use Apple services.
  • Privacy Settings Changes Without Permission: iOS updates have been reported to change privacy settings without user consent, potentially exposing users to unexpected data collection.
  • Virtually Impossible to Hide Data from Apple: Researchers have warned that keeping iPhone data hidden from Apple is "virtually impossible."
  • AI Features Raising New Concerns: With the upcoming iOS 18, new AI features are being introduced, potentially opening up new avenues for data collection and privacy risks.
  • Invasive Tracking: Despite App Store safeguards, invasive tracking by apps like Facebook remains a significant issue.
